Description

The Delphi-Tec suite connects your Delphi applications to PostgreSQL by speaking the database's protocol directly over TCP/IP — no BDE, ODBC, dbExpress or libpq, nothing to install on the client besides the components themselves. Four familiar components (connection, query, table and datasource) plug into Delphi's data-aware controls and ship with automatic editing, master-detail, parameters and fetching tuned for large tables. (As it was done by myself, for my own use, there is not a web site.)

Delphi-Tec is a set of data-access components that talk to PostgreSQL by implementing the database's own v3.0 wire protocol. That means a native, lightweight connection with no intermediate layers such as BDE, ODBC, dbExpress or the libpq client library. Modern PostgreSQL authentication is built in, including SCRAM-SHA-256 (the default on PostgreSQL 14+) and MD5.

It feels immediately familiar to Delphi developers: the components descend from TDataSet and TDataSource, so they work with DBGrid, DBEdit, DBNavigator, reporting tools and everything you already use. The datasets are editable — Post, Insert and Delete automatically generate the matching INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE (with RETURNING, so serial keys and column defaults come back instantly). The writable table and its primary key are detected automatically; even joins can be browsed in full and posted back to their main table.

For day-to-day productivity, the suite adds master-detail (on both the query and the table), parameters name / ParamByName), sorting via IndexFieldNames, and cached updates (edit in memory and commit everything in a single transaction with ApplyUpdates). For large tables and their relationships there is packet fetching (FetchAll/FetchRows) and the SmartFetch mode, which reads only the keys of every record and loads each row's body on demand — instant navigation with minimal memory.

The components are compiled for Win32 and Win64 and run on Delphi 11, 12 and 13. Installation is handled by a wizard that detects the Delphi versions on the machine, compiles the packages and registers everything on the Delphi-Tec palette — with icons, automatic connection selection when you drop a component on a form, and a dropdown of the database's tables on the TableName property.

Who it's for
Delphi teams that want to talk to PostgreSQL in a direct, lean, dependency-free way on the client — keeping the classic TDataSet experience while gaining modern editing, relationship and performance features.

Components

  • TDTPgConnection — the native connection (Host, Port, Database, User, Password).
  • TDTPgQuery — free SQL, parameters, editing, master-detail.
  • TDTPgTable — a single table with an auto-detected key; TableName dropdown.
  • TDTPgDataSource — links the datasets to data-aware controls.
